MUSIC MINISTRY

It has been said that those who sing pray twice. Therefore, there is a lot of praying at Second Baptist Church, at the 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services. Our music ministry is committed to elevating the Savior in praise and evangelizing sinners.

Come join us and use your musical talents to serve the Savior. We offer a variety of choirs and special music for your enjoyment.

Hand Bell & Chimes Ministry, under the direction of Ms. Alice Powell, is a unique form of musical praise. The music reaches far beyond the Christmas carols we are so familiar with. This particular choir is a 3 octave choir:
Chimes Children Choir consists of children, ages 5 – 9, who are just learning music. Rehearsals are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Bell #1 consists of youths, ages 8 – 16, with moderate skill. Rehearsals are on the 1st and 4th Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Bell #2 is made up of youths, ages 10 – 16, working with advance skill. Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Contemporaries Choir, under the direction of Jeffery K. Jenkins, has been a part of the Second Baptist Music Ministry for the last 34 years, singing at the 11:00 a.m. service on the 1st and 3rd Sundays. The Contemporaries Choir, ages 18 and above, praise God through a menagerie of spirituals, anthems, psalm, and gospel with a ‘contemporary’ feel. Rehearsals are every Thursday, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The Men’s Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Helen Joshua, has been active in music ministry for a quarter of a century. On 5th Sundays, the 11:00 a.m. congregation is blessed with the voices of our men, ranging from tenor to baritone. The Men’s Choir welcomes gentlemen of all ages. Rehearsals occur on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., but only during the months with a 5th Sunday.

The Chancel Choir, under the direction of Michael E. Kindred, brings a variety of spirituals, anthems, hymns and traditional gospel to the Second Baptist music ministry. Members of this choir, ages 18 and above, sing praises at the 11:00 a.m. service on 2nd and 4th Sundays. Rehearsals occur every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Israelites are under the direction of Linda Lee. Choir members, ages 18 and above, prepare the congregation for the word of God every Sunday at the 8:00 a.m. service. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
